Just read "Mendigo". It was a sad and touching story which really expressed the picture of the old man. I've only read this one short story of yours, but if you have others similarly written I would enjoy reading them. Keep writing.

I've not done much essay writing, but lately it's called to me.

If you truly -- I mean truly -- want in-depth critique, not just a cheerleader -- and you're committed to your writing, not happy to just splashing first drafts on a web page looking for praise, I'd be glad to offer my insights.

I've made far more distractors on Gather than friends with my critiques.

Post to my "Short story and more!" I'll have a look. You may wish to check out my writing first, to see what I do. I write literary fiction/social commentary. I just posted "Sex in Literature," which contains my short story "Cherry Coke," as well as an essay.
